Easter traditions in Bulgaria are a derivative of the Eastern Orthodox Church rituals. On April 21, Christians will be celebrating Easter, the day on which the resurrection of Jesus is said to have taken place. The date of celebration changes from year to year.Easter in Bulgaria is usually during a different time than the rest of the world. If you are on the territory of Bulgaria during our Easter, this year 2021, the celebration begins on the 30th of April and ends on the 3th of May. At midnight on the Saturday before Easter Sunday, people gather at the church with painted eggs. So get ready to have fun – Bulgarian love this holiday probably more than they love Christmas, and its a national pride together with Martenitsa and Bulgarian alphabet, from painting the eggs, eating delicious food, Easter salad, and eggs battles on Holy Sunday. We, as the IIC team, did a painting activity on this beautiful day and had a lot of fun. Our volunteers from different countries both learned new cultures and the event brought us closer together.
