“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.” Sherry Anderson

On Wednesday, December 5th 2018 we celebrated the International Volunteer Day. It is a day supported by the United Nations to promote volunteerism and to give the opportunity for volunteers in non-governmental organizations or associations to present their work to local communities.

This year, we, International initiatives for cooperation (IIC) volunteers, organized a forum with workshops in the Razlog Library and culture house facilities. We worked the whole week to prepare workshops for this day. We organized several workshops and information points to introduce what is volunteerism through our eyes and what opportunities the European Union can offer youngsters.

Around 50 youngsters from different schools gathered to participate that day and learnt about volunteerism, what the European Solidarity Corps is and about what the International Initiatives for Cooperation association is and which projects have been carried out. Two workshops “the intercultural experience” and “the volunteering super power” invited them to be in our shoes as a volunteer and to discover how volunteerism brings hope to society.

Being a volunteer in Bulgaria means also working and discovering 8 other cultures as our team members come from Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Belarus and Bulgaria. We shared with you some interesting facts of our country! Enjoy :)

Thank you for volunteering!
