Christmas at Yane Sandanski elementary school

It’s been quite some time since we’ve posted on this blog and since then a lot of things have happened, the biggest event being Christmas. So a merry (belated) Christmas from the COOL project volunteers! Most of our Christmas-themed activities took place at Yane Sandanski elementary school. The two weeks leading up to the 25th were dedicated to the festive holiday.

The first week we told the children about how people in our home countries celebrated Christmas. They learned that the “Christkind” delivers the presents in Germany, that bingo is the Italians favorite game during the festive season, that pine cones and their nuts are an important part of Portuguese Christmas tradition and that the most celebrated day in Spain is the 6th of January on which the so called “Fiesta de los tres reyes magos” takes place. If you’re interested in different cultures and want to know more about international Christmas traditions, you can check out the post on this topic.

Apart from learning about different cultures the children at Yane Sandanski elementary school also crafted Christmas cards and a melting snowman.

The Christmas-themed weeks were a nice way to end the year for the children as well as the volunteers.
